What We Do

Once the referral is received and processed by the LCFS Intake Coordinator, a qualified mental health provider will complete a Diagnostic Assessment (or review current assessments, if available) and provide recommendations for treatment.

Recommendations may include ongoing therapy, skills training or referrals to other more appropriate mental health services. The provider will then meet with the student and their family to develop an Individualized Treatment Plan aimed at addressing student and family concerns.

Services

Qualified mental health providers may implement the following services as part the student’s Individualized Treatment Plan within the SLBH program:

  • Attendance and Student Related School Meetings
  • Classroom Observations
  • Classroom Presentations
  • Coordination of Services Between Home, School and Other Agencies
  • Diagnostic Assessments
  • Individual, Group and/or Family Therapy
  • Individualized Treatment Plans and Goals
  • In-Home Family Therapy
  • School Year and Summer Services
  • Teacher and Parent Consultation

Services are mainly provided within the school, however, may take place at a nearby LCFS office, the student’s home or the community.

Goals and Outcomes

Undiagnosed and/or untreated mental health issues can be significant barriers to educational success for a child of any age. SLBH services work to:

  • Improve Identification of Mental Health Issues in Students
  • Strengthen School Partnership
  • Increase Accessibility to Mental Health Services
  • Improve Students’ Ability to Function in School, at Home and in the Community
