Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a well-researched, well supported therapy intervention that can help reduce negative responses to trauma experiences. EMDR was founded by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D. in the late 1980’s when she discovered a connection between eye movements and persistent distressing memories. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (eye movement, tapping, etc.) to support reprocessing that can decrease unhelpful thoughts, emotions, and physical reactions to trauma memories. EMDR is for all ages (adults & children) and can help reduce symptoms of mental health disorders such as:

  • Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depressive disorders
  • Grief and loss
  • Chronic illness and medical issues
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Performance anxiety
  • Personality disorders

If you are feeling “stuck” in your mental health journey, EMDR might be a useful intervention to continue to help you move forward.
